VENITA KRESS

Venita Canclini Kress, of Galt, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 95 on January 13, 2023. Venita is survived by her son, Ronald Canclini, her grandchildren, Robert and Stacey, Chase, Camron, Christina, Steven, Shawn, Scott, Stephanie, Rodney and Christen, and many great grandchildren. Venita is preceded in death by her husband James Canclini, second husband Bud Kress, sons Richard, Robert and James, and daughter Mary Jane.

Venita was born on January 6, 1928 in Burley, Idaho to Edna Knudson and Melvin Nelson. She spent her early years on the family farm where she developed a special bond with her Aunt Billie. Thick as thieves, the two would remain friends until the end. Venita then moved to California and graduated from Linden High School. She married James Canclini and together they had five children, Richard, Robert, Ronald, Mary and James.

Venita moved through life with a childlike spirit. She was kind and generous. Without judgement or prejudice, she offered help to those in need. She never knew a stranger. Whether it meant driving out of her way to offer someone on the street a warm meal and a little change to help them get through, or simply lending an ear to listen, Venita was there. She was thoughtful, and she cherished family. Venita never missed a birthday or holiday and mailed beautiful cards and letters for each and every one. Her grace was felt by all who knew her and they felt better for knowing her. She was funny. Her sense of humor was witty and sharp all the way to the end.

Venita loved life, lived it well, and left it better than she found it. Her spirit will live on in our hearts and minds and we will miss her dearly.
