Flames win in extras on eve of league play

The Lodi High baseball team capped its appearance at the Christian Brothers Easter Tournament on Wednesday with an extra-innings win, rallying to beat Rio Americano 3-2 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth after the Raiders scored in the top of the frame.

Vance Haskins started and went five innings, allowing one run on four hits before Brent Godina came in to finish the game with three hitless innings for the win, with an unearned run and seven strikeouts.

At the plate, Caiden Andes went 2-for-4 with a double, Charlie Casazza had a triple, and Landon Beasley, Gianni Brassesco, Godina and Noah Silvia each singled.

Lodi (8-4) will open Tri-City Athletic League play next week with a three-game series against St. Mary’s, starting on Monday in Stockton.

Varsity: Tokay 7, Clayton Valley Charter 3

The Tigers improved to 6-7 with Tuesday’s victory, and will open TCAL play next week with a three-game series against West, starting with Monday’s home game at Kofu Park.

Varsity: Venture Academy 25, Elliot Christian 0

The Eagles suffered a onehit shutout during their season opener on Tuesday, which was also the opener of Central California Athletic Alliance play.

Elliot was scheduled to play Venture Academy again on Thursday.

SOFTBALL Varsity: St. Mary’s 11, Tokay 1

The Rams scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back on Tuesday, allowing three Tokay hits — a double from Michelle Estrada and singles from Anabelle Sikich and Hannah Nava.

Tokay (6-5) was scheduled to face Lodi on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL JV boys: Lodi 2, Lincoln 1

The JV Flames won 25-17, 13-25, 15-13 on Wednesday, with a strong defensive effort from Jakob Bentz (eight kills and four blocks), Devin Bono (six kills and two blocks) and a freshman Will Wood (13 kills and 10 blocks).
