STAR POWER
AT 60, CELEB-LOVED DESIGN SHOP PAUL FERRANTE SHINES BRIGHTER THAN EVER WITH A RENOVATED MELROSE PLACE FLAGSHIP.
At 60, celeb-loved design shop Paul Ferrante shines brighter than ever with a renovated Melrose Place flagship.
When local lighting house Paul Ferrante opened its original storefront six decades ago, Melrose Place had a reputation as a seedy drag. Now hailed as a nexus of high-design concept shops, Ferrante still shines brightest on the block. A must-stop destination for antique and reproduction lighting and furnishings, the company now spans three generations of family ownership, with cofounder (and partner to the late Paul Ferrante) Tommy Raynor at the helm, managing the firm along with his sister Grace, nieces Julie and Elizabeth, and production manager, Alex. This spring, to mark its mega 60th-anniversary milestone, the storied design house reopens its flagship Melrose Place shop in May following a comprehensive remodel.
“The redesign of our original Melrose Place showroom allows us to reintroduce Paul Ferrante’s old-world artisanship to a new generation of design enthusiasts,” notes Raynor. “As a familyowned and -operated business for 60 years, we are thrilled to continue our legacy at the original location that started it all.” With the occasion comes the creation of chic new Nordic-inspired, monochromatic, “simply white” lighting styles. Think Reykjavik meets LA. For a more classical Ferrante style, head up the 101 to Ojai, where 28 of Ferrante’s handcrafted wrought-iron and glass lanterns adorn a 200-year-old oak tree at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa (905 Country Club Road, Ojai, 855-6978780; ojairesort.com), creating an illuminated living art installation entitled Illume by Paul Ferrante.
