Suggs helps lift Gonzaga over Iowa

Jalen Suggs scored 18 of his career-high 27 points in the first half and No. 1 Gonzaga held off a late rally to beat No. 3 Iowa 99-88 on Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

It was the Bulldogs’ first game since pausing activities in early December because of the coronaviru­s, and Gonzaga showed little rust from not playing a game since Dec. 2.

Suggs finished eight for 17 from the floor and was seven for 10 from the three-point line. Drew Timme added 15 points and Joel Ayai added 11 points and grabbed a careerhigh 18 rebounds for Gonzaga (4-0).

Luka Garza led Iowa (6-1) with 30 points and 10 rebounds on 13 of 18 shooting.

No. 22 North Carolina 75, Kentucky 63: Armando Bacot scored 11 of his team-high 14 points in the second half, rallying the Tar Heels (5-2) from a double-digit deficit to beat the Wildcats (1-5) in Cleveland. Kentucky has lost five in a row for the first time under John Calipari.

Central Florida 86, at No. 15 Florida State 74: Brandon Mahan scored 26 of his career-high 32 points in the second half as the Knights (2-1) ended the Seminoles’ 27-game home winning streak.

Stanford 78, Arizona 75: Oscar da Silva scored 21 points and the Cardinal (4-2, 1-0 Pac-12) ended a 20-game losing streak against the Wildcats (5-1, 0-1 Pac-12) dating to Jan. 4, 2009.

Jemarl Baker hit a career-high eight three-pointers and finished with 29 points for Arizona in a game played in Santa Cruz.

at Oregon 80, Portland 41: Chris Duarte scored 21 points as the Ducks (6-1) walloped the Pilots (5-2).
