Stripped of game, Braves say ‘it stinks’

-

The All-Star game patch worn on the right sleeve of the Atlanta Braves’ jerseys on opening day was sewn over Saturday. The logo was gone from their hats too.

The change came a day after Major League Baseball announced this summer’s game was being moved out of Atlanta over objections to sweeping changes to Georgia voting laws. A new site hasn’t been announced.

“I’m disappointed that it’s not going to being there,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. Pitcher Charlie Morton, in his 14th season, was more vocal.

“It’s about more than just the guys in the clubhouse. It’s about the city of Atlanta, the state of Georgia, the Braves organization, people coming in from all over the country and the businesses in the area seeing a boost,” he said. “I’m disappointed for the Braves organization and those who are local who would have benefited seeing the inf lux of business and excitement in the area. It’s a bad situation. Some of the guys who are likely to be on the team, it would have been nice to represent the team in their home park. People would have been able to see what was done in the ballpark. Other than that, I don’t know what to say about it. It just stinks.”

Etc.

Cincinnati’s Nick Castellanos stood over, flexed and jawed at St. Louis pitcher Jake Woodford after scoring, setting off scuffles between the teams. Castellanos, who was plunked by Woodford after he homered on opening day and hopped out of the box, was the only player ejected . ... Minnesota placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the 10-day injured list because of a hamstring strain . ... Pittsburgh third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes and Miami pitcher Elieser Hernandez both left their games with injuries.
