Top prep girls’ player transfers

Juju Watkins, considered the top girls’ basketball player in the nation from the class of 2023, has checked out of Windward and enrolled at Chatsworth Sierra Canyon.

Watkins makes the Trailblaze­rs one of the top teams in Southern California for the 2021-22 season.

Watkins was The Times’ player of the year two seasons ago as a freshman. She joins another former Windward player, Kijani Wright, who recently transferre­d to Sierra Canyon to play for the boys’ basketball team.

Top-seeded Danielle Collins will try to win her first WTA title at the Palermo Ladies Open on Sunday, when Elena-Gabriela Ruse will be aiming for her second title in two weeks. Collins reached her first final by beating Zhang Shuai 6-4, 6-3. Ruse beat Oceane Dodin 6-7 (4), 7-6 (0), 6-1.
