Sanchez done for the season

-

Quarterback Mark Sanchez has undergone seasonending surgery on his injured right shoulder, possibly also signaling the end of his New York Jets career.

The surgery on the torn labrum was performed by Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday. The former USC quarterback hasn’t played since being injured in the third exhibition game.

Sanchez says he’s “disappointed” by not being able to play this season but expects a full recovery. A hefty contract, however, could make him a salary cap casualty in the off-season. He was in a tight competition with rookie Geno Smith for the starting job this summer before being hurt against the New York Giants. Vick feels better

Don’t rule Michael Vick out just yet.

Two days after injuring his left hamstring, the Phila- delphia Eagles quarterback was back on the field Tuesday. He threw and jogged, though he didn’t participate in team drills during practice.

“I was surprised I was able to throw and throw with such velocity,” Vick said. “I feel a lot better than I did on Sunday. Sunday was kind of agonizing. It was tough. It was tough to deal with, but I’m glad with where I’m at today.” Falcons’ bad news

The Atlanta Falcons could lose Julio Jones for the season after the Pro Bowl receiver injured his foot Monday in a 30-28 loss to the Jets.

Coach Mike Smith says Jones, the NFL leader with 41 catches, did not get encouraging results from a visit with doctors Tuesday morning. Smith added that Jones will see a foot specialist Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C., for a second opinion. Jones ranks second with 580 yards receiving. Backs sidelined

Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw will miss the rest of this season after opting for neck surgery. And Giants’ starting running back David Wilson will miss New York’s game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night because of a neck injury. ‘Pacman’ not guilty

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was found not guilty of an assault charge. Jones, who could have been sentenced to up to six months in jail if convicted, was accused of hitting a woman outside a downtown Cincinnati nightclub and was arrested in June.
