WELCOME TO THE BIG ORANGE BOOK FESTIVAL AT CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY
In In the midst of a busy and chaotic world, the Big Orange Book Festival is the perfect spot to bring together writers and readers, poets and playwrights, and film makers and film buffs, for a full weekend of literary and storytelling enjoyment.
This year, the Book Festival welcomes authors and presenters who represent a rich blend of literary genres, from science fiction and fantasy to memoirs and screenwriting. Marquee speakers include:
• LARA SPENCER – author and lifestyle anchor for Good Morning America, and host of HGTV’s Flea Market Flip
• KIM STANLEY ROBINSON – winner of eleven major science fiction writing awards
• MARCIA CLARK – crime novelist, prosecutor and television correspondent
• RICHARD PAUL EVANS – author of 23 nationally best-selling books
• BILL ROSEMANN – Marvel Comics editor and head of Marvel Custom Solutions
• ALAN CHEUSE – acclaimed author and longtime book reviewer on NPR
• MICHAEL SILVERBLATT – Literary conversationalist and host of KCRW’s Bookwork
This year, the festival is filled with panel discussions covering a wide range of topics—everything from young adult literature, poetry, cooking, romance, and California history to insiders’ tales of the publishing and writing business, and so much more.
Festival-goers can hear from David Iserson, a film and TV screenwriter (most recently for Fox’s New Girl); laugh with Kevin Fagan, the creator of the nationally syndicated comic strip, Drabble; ponder the words of Alan Rifkin, a former LA Weekly contributing editor and author of a forthcoming memoir on the folk rock revolution; or enjoy the stories of Derek Taylor Kent, known to most of his readers as Derek the Ghost. A complete list of authors and topics can be found on the Festival schedule, page 9.
Rounding out the festival are the many exhibitors sharing their ideas and products with festival-goers. Be sure to visit the exhibitor booths between sessions and discover what’s available in the world of books. A list of exhibitors can also be found on page 12 in this program.
