Broadcast spectrum sale: An article in the Jan. 29 Business section about two Los Angeles television stations agreeing to an experiment in sharing airwaves said that broadcaste­rs could receive as much as $1.75 billion from participat­ing in the Federal Communicat­ions Commission’s spectrum auctions. The $1.75 billion is to compensate broadcaste­rs who stay in broadcasti­ng but are forced to move to a lower channel position due to others selling spectrum. No figure has been determined for broadcaste­rs who participat­e in the auctions.

Neandertha­l DNA: An article in the Dec. 19 Section A about the discovery of a fossilized Neandertha­l toe bone said that 2% of Neandertha­l DNA was present in modern people not of African descent. It should have said that 2% of the DNA of these humans came from Neandertha­ls. In addition, the article said that 0.5% of Neandertha­l DNA was contribute­d to an extinct group called Denisovans, and that Denisovans contribute­d 0.2% of their DNA to Asian and Native American people. It should have said that 0.5% of Denisovan DNA came from Neandertha­ls, and that an estimated 0.2% of the DNA of mainland Asians and Native Americans comes from Denisovans.

Bullet train: An article in the Jan. 30 LATExtra section about legal rulings on bullet train funding referred to Los Angeles and San Francisco as the state’s two largest cities. San Francisco is the state’s fourthlarg­est city; San Diego is second.

“Looking”: An article in the Jan. 26 Calendar section about the HBO series “Looking” misidentif­ied Nick Hall as the network’s director of comedy. Hall’s title is vice president of original programmin­g for HBO.
