Broadcast spectrum sale: An article in the Jan. 29 Business section about two Los Angeles television stations agreeing to an experiment in sharing airwaves said that broadcasters could receive as much as $1.75 billion from participating in the Federal Communications Commission’s spectrum auctions. The $1.75 billion is to compensate broadcasters who stay in broadcasting but are forced to move to a lower channel position due to others selling spectrum. No figure has been determined for broadcasters who participate in the auctions.
Neanderthal DNA: An article in the Dec. 19 Section A about the discovery of a fossilized Neanderthal toe bone said that 2% of Neanderthal DNA was present in modern people not of African descent. It should have said that 2% of the DNA of these humans came from Neanderthals. In addition, the article said that 0.5% of Neanderthal DNA was contributed to an extinct group called Denisovans, and that Denisovans contributed 0.2% of their DNA to Asian and Native American people. It should have said that 0.5% of Denisovan DNA came from Neanderthals, and that an estimated 0.2% of the DNA of mainland Asians and Native Americans comes from Denisovans.
Bullet train: An article in the Jan. 30 LATExtra section about legal rulings on bullet train funding referred to Los Angeles and San Francisco as the state’s two largest cities. San Francisco is the state’s fourthlargest city; San Diego is second.
“Looking”: An article in the Jan. 26 Calendar section about the HBO series “Looking” misidentified Nick Hall as the network’s director of comedy. Hall’s title is vice president of original programming for HBO.
