U.S. women win, 1-0

-

Sydney Leroux scored in the 77th minute and the U.S. beat Canada, 1-0, in women’s soccer at Frisco, Texas. The Americans extended their home unbeaten streak to 78 games (68-0-10). Canada has not defeated the U.S. since 2001. Leroux, a Canadian-born U.S. citizen, broke the deadlock with a left-footed finish three yards out after a pass from Becky Sauerbrunn got through two defenders and goalkeeper Erin McLeod inside the six-yard box. Goalkeeper Hope Solo preserved the U.S. win in the 87th minute with a diving save of a Jonelle Filigno shot.

The Galaxy rescheduled its March 15 home game against D.C. United for Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m. because of the CONCACAF Champions League soccer tournament. The Galaxy plays host to Club Tijuana on March 12 in the first leg of a two-game quarterfinal series in the CONCACAF event. The second game is scheduled in Tijuana on March 18.
