Frosted took the lead from 21-1 longshot Tencendur in midstretch and won the $1-million Wood Memorial, New York’s major prep for the Kentucky Derby, by two lengths at Aqueduct racetrack. Both 3-year-olds are on their way to the Derby, as well as third-place finisher El Kabeir, based on Derby qualifying points. Fourthand fifth-place finishers Daredevil and Tiz Shea D are on the bubble with the Derby field set at a 20-horse maximum.

Carpe Diem, a top Kentucky Derby contender, took the lead near the top of the stretch after following early leader Ocho Ocho Ocho and pulled away to a three-length victory in the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Lexington, Ky.

The United States defended its women’s world hockey championsh­ip with a 7-5 victory over Canada in the gold-medal game at Malmo, Sweden. Brianna Decker and Kendall Coyne scored for the U.S. in the third after the Americans blew a 5-2 lead. U.S. goalie Jessie Vetter made nine saves and was replaced by Alex Rigsby after Canada’s fourth goal. Rigsby stopped 13 shots. The U.S. has won five of the last six world titles.
