Tour for introverts

- — Anne Harnagel

Travelers who prefer their own quiet thoughts rather than the chatter of guides will appreciate this gentle 10-day tour of the Wessex region in the south of England. There is no rushing from place to place: Excursions take place every other day and focus on ancient landmarks, such as the Avebury Stone Circle, Wells Cathedral, Stanton Drew and Vale of the White Horse. Guests stay at the Abbey Retreat on the grounds of the ruined Glastonbury Abbey. In-between days are for relaxing and recharging, with options such as yoga, meditation and walks in the abbey’s 37 acres of parkland. Each guest has his or her own room (no telephone or television), with shared bathroom. Dates: May 1-10 Price: $3,795 a person; no single supplement. Includes all excursions and meals prepared in the abbey’s kitchen. Does not include international airfare or transportation to the Abbey Retreat. Availability may be limited.
