Braves’ McKirahan suspended 80 games

Atlanta Braves reliever Andrew McKirahan was suspended for 80 games Monday after a positive test for a banned substance under Major League Baseball’s drug program.

McKirahan is the fifth big league pitcher in 25 days discipline­d for using performanc­e-enhancing drugs. He was cited for Ipamorelin, which releases growth hormone.

The 25-year-old lefthander has a 4.15 earned-run average in three appearance­s this season.

Minnesota’s Ervin Santana, the New York Mets’ Jenrry Mejia, Seattle’s David Rollins and Atlanta’s Arodys Vizcaino were suspended for positive tests for Stanozolol, which is sold as Winstrol and is popular with body builders. Brewers’ Gennett suffers hand injury

Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett cut his left hand in the shower and needed five stitches, an injury that could land him on the disabled list.

The game at Pittsburgh between the Pirates and Chicago Cubs was delayed 23 minutes after a female fan behind home plate was hit in the back of the head by a ball off the bat of Starlin Castro.

The Pirates said in a statement the woman was conscious and alert when she was taken out of the seating are on a stretcher.

Castro fouled a ball back against the protective screen with such force that it struck the woman.
