Singleton House sale sets 2015 state high
The Singleton House, set on seven acres in the Holmby Hills area, has sold for $65 million, earning it the top spot among high-priced home sales this year in California.
One of the last major works of architect Wallace Neff, the mansion was built for Henry Singleton, who cofounded Teledyne. Singleton died in 1999 at 82. The industrial conglomerate is now known as Teledyne Technologies.
The Southern Colonialstyle estate features a main residence, a tennis court and a swimming pool. The 15,520 square feet of living space contains a grand entry with an oval hallway; living, dining and family rooms; a bar; a den; an office; a study/library; a gym; 10 bedrooms; and 12.5 bathrooms. There is an attached four-car garage.
The sale is among the largest to record this year nationwide. New York Jets owner Woody Johnson in March sold his Fifth Avenue duplex for $77.5 million, and the six-acre oceanfront portion of historic Casa Apava in Palm Beach, Fla., recently sold for $71.2 million.
The Singleton House had been listed for as much as $85 million, although it was most recently offered at $75 million.
Joyce Essex Harvey and Danny Harvey of Coldwell Banker were the listing agents. Stephen Resnick of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate, represented the buyer.
