Real Madrid, Juventus reach semifinals

-

Javier Hernandez scored off a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 88th minute, and defending champion Real Madrid beat crosstown rival Atletico Madrid, 1-0, to reach the Champions League semifinals for the fifth straight year.

With its victory at home following a 0-0 tie last week, Real won the homeand-home, total-goals series.

In Wednesday night’s other match, visiting Juventus tied Monaco, 0-0, to advance on 1-0 aggregate and become the first Italian team to reach the semifinals since Inter Milan won the 2010 title. Arturo Vidal converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute of the first leg last week.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich advanced Tuesday. The semifinal draw is Friday.

The Cincinnati Bengals extended Coach Mar vin Lewis’ contract by one year through the 2016 season. Lewis, 56, has coached the Bengals for 12 seasons, the second-longest current tenure with one team behind Bill Belichick in New England.

Two people familiar with the negotiations said free-agent receiver Greg Jennings has signed with the Miami Dolphins. The Minnesota Vikings released Jennings last month after acquiring receiver Mike Wallace from Miami in a trade. The Dolphins also signed offensive linemen Jeff Linkenbach and Jacques McClendon.

Anze Kopitar of the Kings, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks are the finalists for this season’s Frank J. Selke Trophy, awarded “to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game,” the NHL said.

Kopitar is also a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy.
