Hundreds attend cardinal’s funeral
Top elected officials, clergy members and area Catholics said final goodbyes to the late Cardinal Francis George during a packed funeral Mass for the Chicago leader, who was remembered as a vigorous defender of Roman Catholic orthodoxy.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel were among about 1,200 people attending services at the city’s Holy Name Cathedral.
George, a Chicago native, died of cancer at age 78.
