Microsoft results top forecasts

Microsoft Corp. reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $4.99 billion.

The company said it had net income of 61 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for restructur­ing costs, came to 62 cents a share.

The results topped Wall Street expectatio­ns.

The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 51 cents a share.

The software maker posted revenue of $21.73 billion in the period, topping Wall Street forecasts of $21.03 billion.
