NASCAR race postponed

Weather disrupted NASCAR’s top series for a second consecutiv­e week when Saturday night’s Sprint Cup Series race was postponed because of persistent rain at Richmond (Va.) Internatio­nal Raceway. NASCAR reschedule­d the event for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Helio Castroneve­s will start from the pole position at the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Birmingham after the qualifying session was shortened because of lightning in the area. Castroneve­s turned in the fast lap of 1 minute 7.1925 seconds. Will Power starts second and Simon Pagenaud third for a Team Penske sweep of the top three spots.

Honda’s Eli Tomac raced to his third victory of the AMA Supercross season, beating 450SX series champion Ryan Dungey at MetLife Stadium at East Rutherford, N.J.

Mick Schumacher, the 16-year-old son of former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, made a strong debut as he earned the best rookie award and finished ninth after starting 19th at the Formula 4 level at Oschersleb­en, Germany.

In Spain, top-seeded Kei Nishikori reached the Barcelona Open final with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Martin

Klizan. Nishikori will next play Pablo Andujar, who beat third-seeded David Ferrer, 7-6 (6), 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki reached the Porsche Grand Prix final at Stuttgart, Germany, with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win over second-seeded Simona

Halep. Wozniacki will play Angelique Kerber, who swept past Madison Brengle, 6-3, 6-1.

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Jiri Vesely advanced to the Nastase Tiriac Trophy final Sunday at Bucharest, Romania. In the semifinals, Garcia-Lopez lost his serve only once in beating Gael Monfils, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2, and Vesely rallied to top Daniel Gimeno-Traver, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

In track and field, Patrick Feeney ran his anchor leg in 44.84 seconds to lead Team USA to victory in the 1,600-meter relay at the Penn Relays at Philadelph­ia, and the Americans won four of the six events in the USA vs. the World races. Bryshon Nellum, Brycen Spratling and Clayton Parros ran the first three legs for the Americans, whose winning time was 3:00.86. . . . In the Drake Relays at Des Moines, Iowa, unheralded Jasmin Stowers won the 100-meter hurdles in a meet-record 12.40 seconds.

The United States defeated Canada, 7-2, to advance to the final of the under-18 world hockey championsh­ip at Zug, Switzerlan­d. The U.S. will play for the gold medal Sunday against the winner of the Finland-Switzerlan­d semifinal.
