Police block demonstrators

Turkish authorities deployed thousands of police officers to block entry to Istanbul’s Gezi Park, stopping a few hundred marchers trying to mark the second anniversary of the nationwide antigovernment protests.

Holding carnations and shouting slogans, the protesters tried to reach the main square where Gezi is located. They dispersed after delivering speeches and leaving carnations on a street leading to the square.
