Thomp­son cleared to play af­ter con­cus­sion

Golden State War­riors guard Klay Thomp­son has been cleared to re­turn af­ter his con­cus­sion and play in the NBA Fi­nals.

USC reached its first NCAA golf cham­pi­onship fi­nal af­ter Eric Sugi­moto beat Nick Hardy 3 and 1 to lift the Tro­jans past Illi­nois in the semi­fi­nals at Braden­ton, Fla.

USC will play Louisiana State in the fi­nal Wed­nes­day at the Con­ces­sion Golf Club. The Tro­jans beat Illi­nois, 3-1-1, and LSU beat Ge­or­gia, 3-1-1.

In the morn­ing quar­ter­fi­nals, USC beat Texas, 3-0-2, LSU topped Van­der­bilt, 3-1-1, Illi­nois edged UCLA, 3-2, and Ge­or­gia beat South Florida, 4-1.

Haylie Wag­ner threw a com­plete game and Michi­gan beat Florida and ace Lau­ren Haeger, 1-0, in the Women’s Col­lege World Se­ries in Ok­la­homa City to force a de­cid­ing third game on Wed­nes­day for the na­tional cham­pi­onship.

Amer­i­can Pharoah ar­rived in rainy New York from Louisville, Ky., to begin fi­nal prepa­ra­tions for this week­end’s Bel­mont Stakes, in which the colt will try to be­come the first Triple Crown win­ner since 1978.

“This is Pharoah weather. He likes wet,” trainer Bob Baf­fert said af­ter the horse’s ar­rival. “He’s never stayed in a barn like this. It’s like he’s at the Ritz.”

Tem­per­a­tures were in the low 50s, un­sea­son­ably cool for June. The fore­cast on Satur­day calls for partly sunny skies.
