Thompson cleared to play after concussion

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson has been cleared to return after his concussion and play in the NBA Finals.

USC reached its first NCAA golf championship final after Eric Sugimoto beat Nick Hardy 3 and 1 to lift the Trojans past Illinois in the semifinals at Bradenton, Fla.

USC will play Louisiana State in the final Wednesday at the Concession Golf Club. The Trojans beat Illinois, 3-1-1, and LSU beat Georgia, 3-1-1.

In the morning quarterfinals, USC beat Texas, 3-0-2, LSU topped Vanderbilt, 3-1-1, Illinois edged UCLA, 3-2, and Georgia beat South Florida, 4-1.

Haylie Wagner threw a complete game and Michigan beat Florida and ace Lauren Haeger, 1-0, in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City to force a deciding third game on Wednesday for the national championship.

American Pharoah arrived in rainy New York from Louisville, Ky., to begin final preparations for this weekend’s Belmont Stakes, in which the colt will try to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

“This is Pharoah weather. He likes wet,” trainer Bob Baffert said after the horse’s arrival. “He’s never stayed in a barn like this. It’s like he’s at the Ritz.”

Temperatures were in the low 50s, unseasonably cool for June. The forecast on Saturday calls for partly sunny skies.
