KEY MOMENT: The Dodgers were leading, 1-0, until the eighth inning, which Brett Anderson started by walking Yadier Molina. Pete Kozma pinch-ran for Molina, after which Jason Heyward reached base on an infield single. The runners advanced to second and third base, respectively, on a sacrifice bunt by Tony Cruz. Kozma scored on a grounder Kolten Wong hit to Adrian Gonzalez. Anderson slipped near the mound, preventing him from covering first base and allowing Wong to reach base safely. The Cardinals went ahead 2-1 when Heyward scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Carpenter.

ON THE MOUND: Anderson pitched 7 2⁄3 innings, making this his longest start in more than four years. The last time he pitched as many innings in a single game, the often-injured left-hander tossed eight scoreless innings for the Oakland Athletics against the Angels on May 26, 2011. Anderson was nearly as dominant as he was that night in an Athletics uniform, as he held the Cardinals scoreless through the first seven innings. His final line: four hits, two runs, three walks and five strikeouts.

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers scored their only run in the second inning. Alberto Callaspo’s leadoff walk was followed by consecutive singles from Scott Schebler, who was playing in his first major league game, and Enrique Hernandez. Joc Pederson drew a one-out walk to force in a run and move the Dodgers in front, 1-0. However, the bases-loaded threat ended when Jimmy Rollins grounded into an inning-ending double play on the next at-bat.

EXTRA BASES: Alan Thicke, Anthony Anderson and James Van Der Beek will be among the celebrities playing in the Hollywood Stars game on Saturday at 5 p.m. Stadium and parking gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
