It was a remarkable Southern Section Division 4 championship softball game on Saturday night at Bill Barber Park in Irvine.

Through 12 innings, Palmdale Highland and Torrance were scoreless. Rachel Garcia, the Gatorade state player of the year headed to UCLA, struck out 24 batters for Highland.

In the bottom of the 13th inning, Garcia injured her knee during warmups and had to come out. Torrance got a walk-off single from Britny Jumalon to defeat Highland, 1-0.

Garcia had come in with statistics hard to duplicate. She had struck out 394 batters in 163 innings, thrown10 no-hitters, five perfect games and 20 shutouts.
