Los Angeles Times - - SPORTS - — Dylan Hernandez

KEY MOMENT: With the score tied in the seventh inning, 1-1, Chris Heisey drew a two-out walk, which was followed by a double to left-center by Yasiel Puig. With runners on second and third, the Diamondbacks elected to intentionally walk Adrian Gonzalez and pitch to Howie Kendrick. The strategy backfired on the visitors, as Kendrick singled off Addison Reed to drive in two runs and move the Dodgers in front, 3-1.

ON THE MOUND: Carlos Frias gave up eight hits over 62⁄

3 innings, but limited the Diamondbacks to one run. The only run charged to him came when he uncorked a wild pitch to Cliff Pennington with Jarrod Saltalamacchia at third base in the second inning. Kenley Jansen preserved the Dodgers’ two-run lead by recording his seventh save. Adam Liberatore (2-1), who recorded the final out of the seventh inning, was credited with the win.

AT THE PLATE: In addition to driving in the go-ahead runs, Kendrick blasted an opposite-field home run off Diamondbacks starter Robbie Ray in the sixth inning. The Dodgers were limited to seven hits for the game, including two each from Kendrick and Puig.

EXTRA BASES: In the latest round of All-Star balloting, Gonzalez was overtaken by Paul Goldschmidt of the Diamondbacks as the top vote-getter among National League first baseman. … Joc Pederson was out of the lineup because Manager Don Mattingly said he sensed the rookie outfielder was “worn down.” … Justin Turner’s left knee was still stiff, Mattingly said. Turner made an early departure the previous night after fouling a ball off the knee.

DRAFT DAY 2: On the second day of the amateur draft, the Dodgers selected a couple of local players, taking Lakewood High shortstop Brendon Davis in the fifth round and Cal State Dominguez Hills right-hander Kevin Brown in the ninth. Brown is not related to the former Dodgers pitcher with the same name.

UP NEXT: Brett Anderson (2-4, 3.29 ERA) will face the Diamondbacks and Jeremy Hellickson (4-3, 4.88) at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. TV: SportsNet LA. Radio: 570, 1020.
