Father held in death of 7-year-old

A San Bernardino County man was arrested Friday after police say he killed his 7-year-old son in an apparent accidental shooting. Julio Cervantes Sr., 40, of Adelanto, was taken into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of his son, Daniel, the night before, the San Bernardino County Sheriff ’s Department said.

It is unclear how the shooting occurred, but sheriff ’s officials investigated the case throughout the night.

A family member called authorities at 4:54 p.m. Thursday to report an accidental shooting at the home in the 18000 block of Bellf lower Street. Deputies and an ambulance crew arrived to find the child shot.

Family members and paramedics tried to save the boy. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
