Suspect sought in officer’s death

A handcuffed prisoner in amoving police cruiser managed to grab a gun, fatally shoot the officer at the wheel and escape from the vehicle, which careened into a utility pole at a busy New Orleans intersection, police said.

Officer Daryle Holloway, 45, died at a hospital, police chief Michael Harrison said.

Meanwhile, a manhunt was on for Travis Boys, 33, who had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault andwas being taken to jail when he escaped.

A New Orleans department spokesman said police were trying to determine what weapon was used and how it had been obtained, but do not believe it was the officer’s gun.
