Di­a­mond­backs trade Ar­royo to the Braves

Seat­tle hires Martinez

In amoney-sav­ing move, the Ari­zona Di­a­mond­backs on Satur­day traded pitcher Bron­son Ar­royo and last year’s first-round draft pick, pitcher Touki Tous­saint, to the At­lanta Braves for in­fielder Phil Gosselin.

Ar­royo, 38, has not pitched since un­der­go­ing Tommy John surgery in18.

He signed with Ari­zona as a free agent be­fore last sea­son af­ter eight years with the Cincinnati Reds.

Edgar Martinez was hired as hit­ting coach by the Seat­tle Mariners, who re­as­signed Howard John­son to the mi­nor league sys­tem.

Martinez, 52, spent his 18year ca­reer with the Mariners and bat­ted .312 with a .418 on-base per­cent­age. He was the Amer­i­can League bat­ting cham­pion twice.
