Diamondbac­ks trade Arroyo to the Braves

In amoney-saving move, the Arizona Diamondbac­ks on Saturday traded pitcher Bronson Arroyo and last year’s first-round draft pick, pitcher Touki Toussaint, to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Phil Gosselin.

Arroyo, 38, has not pitched since undergoing Tommy John surgery in18.

He signed with Arizona as a free agent before last season after eight years with the Cincinnati Reds.

Edgar Martinez was hired as hitting coach by the Seattle Mariners, who reassigned Howard Johnson to the minor league system.

Martinez, 52, spent his 18year career with the Mariners and batted .312 with a .418 on-base percentage. He was the American League batting champion twice.
