short­stop: The 5-11, 195-pound Baldoquin, who signed for $8 mil­lion in early Jan­uary, is a slick fielder who is more ad­vanced de­fen­sively than he is with the bat. He opened the sea­son at Class-A In­land Em­pire, where he hit .143 with 18 strike­outs in14 games be­fore suf­fer­ing a left shoul­der in­jury that side­lined him for six weeks in May and June. Baldoquin played three sea­sons for Las Tu­nas in Cuba’s Serie Na­cional, the top league on the is­land, and hewas a mem­ber of the coun­try’s 16-and-un­der na­tional team be­fore leav­ing Cuba for the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic in Fe­bru­ary 2014.
