Stoll faces felony count
The center, who has a court date of July 1, could face probation to four years in prison.
The Kings center, arrested in April in Las Vegas, is charged with felony drug possession.
Kings center Jarret Stoll has been charged with one felony count of drug possession, of cocaine, according to the Clark County ( Nev.) district attorney’s office on Monday.
Toxicology results were conducted on substances authorities said were seized from Stoll in a pat- down search at the MGM Grand pool in Las Vegas in April. The possible penalty can range from probation to four years in state prison.
Stoll’s court date is scheduled for July 1, which coincides with the beginning of NHL free agency. Stoll, 32, who has been with the Kings since 2008 and played for their two Stanley Cup champion teams, is due to become an unrestricted free agent. Even before his arrest, which came shortly after the regular season, Stoll had not been expected to return to the Kings.
David Chesnoff, Stoll’s attorney in Las Vegas, said there have been discussions with the district attorney. “I’m hopeful there will be a fair resolution,” Chesnoff said.
“The district attorney is not commenting on the evi- dence at this time,” Tess Driver, the district attorney’s executive assistant, said to The Times via email.
Stoll was arrested after he “consented to a voluntary pat- down” at the entrance of the Wet Republic Pool at the hotel. The arrest report by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated that the off- white powder was identified as cocaine and weighed 3.3 grams, and the gel- caps with the powder inside were consistent with the illegal narcotic MDMA, known as Ecstasy.
In the criminal complaint, there was no mention of Ecstasy.
