Berlin: The Berlin Philharmonic, one of the most illustrious orchestras in the world, announced Monday that Kirill Petrenko will be chief conductor. The Russian- born Petrenko leads the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Germany, and will start in Berlin in 2018.

Opera: The L. A. Opera announced Monday three new members to its board of directors: Ann Ziff, the noted philanthropist and chairwoman of the Metropolitan Opera in New York; Michael A. Friedman, former president and chief executive of the City of Hope medical center; and Iman Brivanlou, managing director of the income equities group at the investment management firm TCW.

EDC: A 24- year- old man died Saturday at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, the music festival’s organizer said Monday. The circumstances of the death were not made public.
