Knee Pain is Not Just due to “Old Age” or Obesity
Have you had one doctor after another telling you this? Just the natural process of the body getting older - that you should expect to have arthritis. Sure, if you don’t take care of your damaged joints now, as you get older they will become worse (which is why you shouldn’t wait any longer to see if you can be helped).
However, old age is not the cause of your arthritis. I’ll venture to say all 360 joints in the body are the same age, yet arthritis and joint degeneration has not affected every one of them - only your previously injured joints that never healed properly.
Your X-Ray or MRI may show that you have bone-on-bone degenerative arthritis of the knee, but may not need surgery.
Studies show that there is little correlation between MRI findings and knee symptoms that justify surgery. According to a research study funded by The National Institute of Aging & the National Institute of Arthritis, there are more and more knee replacement surgeries being done however knee problems found on MRI’s are not increasing. Because of the marked increase in the number of knee replacements being done in the U.S., researchers were surprised to find that this increase was Not due to the increase obesity and the increasing age of the population. Of extreme importance they did not find an increase in knee pain due to arthritis of the knee.
So, our country is performing more and more unnecessary knee replacements, because the source of pain is being misdiagnosed.
