Daly collapses on golf course

John Daly, 49, collapsed near the end of a round of golf at a small, local tournament at Deerfield Country Club in the suburbs of Jackson, Miss., and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Daly’s friend, Billy Allen, said the twotime major champion’s vital signs were good but doctors were checking on possible injuries to his ribs and fingers. Temperatur­es were near 90 degrees.

“He was struggling pretty badly right before he collapsed,” said Leigh Brannan, the Deerfield Country Club pro. “But we’re all hoping it’s nothing serious and that he was just a little dehydrated.”

Will Power won the pole for Sunday’s season title-deciding race at Sonoma Raceway in California by circling the circuit in 1 minute 16.25 seconds. Power is fourth in the standings, trailing the leader, Team Penske teammate Juan Pablo Montoya, by 61 points. Montoya will start fifth at Sonoma.
