Malibu home sells for $21 million

The storied home of two veteran television writers, a Richard Neutra-designed house and an oceanfront contempora­ry in Malibu were among the most expensive real estate sales in the greater Los Angeles area in the week that ended Sept. 19.

$21 million — Malibu

In the 27000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, an oceanfront home on Paradise Cove beach sold after being relisted in May for $24.95 million. It previously sold for $19.438 million in 2007.

Designed by architect Steven Ehrlich and later remodeled by designer Michael Lee, the multi-level, modern-style home boasts wide walls of floor-to-ceiling glass, four ocean-view bedrooms and an elevator. A library/office, a modern chef ’s kitchen and a wine room with bamboo floors are also within the 6,445 square feet of space. Sliding glass doors off the living and dining rooms open to a deck that leads to the shore.

$7.5 million — Bel-Air

A contempora­ry-style home built on a property once owned by Victor Mizzy, television composer for such shows as “Green Acres” and “The Addams Family,” sold in the 2100 block after being listed for sale in February for $8,888,850.

The two-story home, designed by architect Patrick J. Killen and built last year, features such details as polished concrete, exotic woodwork and a 73-foot tiled infinity-edge swimming pool. Walls of floor-toceiling glass center on views extending from the Stone Canyon Reservoir to downtown L.A. A formal living room, an open-plan dining room, a media room, six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms are within the 5,402 square feet of space. Three fireplaces and an elevator complete the setting.

$7.4 million — Beverly Hills

Television writers Scott Silveri and wife Shana Goldberg-Meehan sold a storied hacienda-style home in the 2300 block of Bowmont Drive for $5,000 more than the asking price. The couple, whose credits include the sitcoms “Friends” and “Joey,” paid $5.6 million for the house in 2007.

The 1920s home on about half an acre in Coldwater Canyon was once owned and occupied by acting greats Katharine Hepburn and Boris Karloff. Singer Eric Burdon of the Animals also lived at the house.

Interiors done in white masonry walls and colorful tile accents include five bedrooms and six bathrooms in 4,984 square feet of space. Fireplaces are in the dining, living and family rooms, the library and master bedroom. Outdoors, tree-topped grounds contain various patios, a swimming pool and a courtyard with a pizza oven.

Edward Fitz of the Agency was the listing agent. Kennon Earl of Keller Williams represente­d the buyer.

$5.495 million — Pacif ic Palisades

The Hees House, a glasssheat­hed home designed by famed modernist architect Richard Neutra, changed hands in the 200 block of Trino Way for the asking price — $995,000 more than what it sold for in 2013.

Built in 1950, the streamline­d design is distinguis­hed by clean lines, walls of windows and a stone hearth that divides the living and dining room areas. Three bedrooms and five bathrooms are within 3,085 square feet of interiors.

$5.2 million — Manhattan Beach

Comedian and actor Bill Engvall of Blue Collar Comedy fame sold a 6,065square-foot home in the 600 block of 18th Street for $298,000 less than the asking price. He bought the house in 2006 for $3.712 million, records show.

Built in Cape Cod style in 2005, the home has six bedrooms and 6.25 bathrooms across three stories. Among its features is a lower-level lounge complete with a game room, a home theater, a wet bar and a wine cellar. The master suite touts a private balcony, a fireplace and a steam shower.

Landscaped grounds center on a trellis-topped fire pit and an adjacent rock-faced spa. A built-in barbecue, dining area and wet bar are elsewhere.

Susan Kaminski of Shorewood Realtors was the listing agent. Carissa Ritchey, also of Shorewood Realtors, represente­d the buyer.
