Autumn

Priyanka, 2nd grade

Pacific Elementary, Manhattan Beach

Swish. Swish. Leaves falling. The wind is blowing all day. Crunch! Leaves crumbling.

My Invisible Flying Car

Grayson, 6

Magic Pen Kids, Irvine

My car zooms like lightning. We blast past the sun — a giant white fireball. I feel as hot as a mug of chocolate and hope we have enough dirty socks to fly around the world. I have designed this invisible auto to fly 100,000 miles on one pair of dirty socks. And among my Mommy, Daddy, Ashton, and me, we have four of them.

Fall

Helbert, 11

Loara Elementary, Anaheim

Down, down! Yellow and brown. The leaves are falling over a town. September is a time of beginning for all. Beginning of school. Beginning of fall. The leaves are falling one by one. Summer is over and school has begun.

A Vacation on My Island

Logan, 9

Magic Pen Kids, Irvine

Golden hibiscus bloom the color of sunlight, as waves crash along the shore like liquid bombs. I inhale the delicious sweet scent of bananas as I set fire to a tree, spear fresh mackerel on a stick, roast it over the fire, then slip the hot juicy mackerel into my mouth.

I’m Big

Jared, 2nd grade

Pacific Elementary, Manhattan Beach

I feel colossal. I’m very large. My parents are like beetles. My sister is like an ant. I’m 17 feet tall. I feel big because I got an A++++ on my test. I’m big!

Under the Singing Moon

Isabelle, 10

Magic Pen Kids, Irvine

Atop my melted igloo I stand, gazing at the singing moon. A rainbow of lights dances to the swaying stars. The sky is painted deep purple, like an emperor’s cape and the air vibrates with the low hum of angels.

That Time of Year

Andy, 8

Los Feliz STEMM Magnet, L.A.

Make a pile of leaves. It will be cold outside. It will be windy.
