Rosberg prevails

Nico Rosberg won the first Mexican Grand Prix since 1992, denying Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton’s bid to tie the Formula One record of 13 wins in a season. Hamilton, who clinched the season title last week, has 10 wins with two races left. Rosberg has four wins.

Antron Brown (top fuel), Robert Hight (funny car), Erica Enders (pro stock) and Andrew Hines (pro stock motorcycle) wrapped up NHRA season titles at the Toyota Nationals in Las Vegas.

Simone Biles of Columbus, Ohio, set the record for career gold medals by a female at the world gymnastics championsh­ips, winning balance beam and floor exercise at Glasgow, Scotland. Biles, 18, has 10 golds, breaking the mark held by Svetlana Khorkina, Gina Gogean and Larisa Latynina.

Kenya’s Stanley Biwott and Mary Keitany swept the titles at the New York City Marathon.

West Hills native Mikaela Mayer won the lightweigh­t division at the U.S. Olympic women’s boxing trials in Memphis, Tenn., in a split decision over 18-year-old Jajaira Gonzalez of Glendora. Flyweight Virginia Fuchs and middleweig­ht Claressa Shields also won and will fight in qualifying events for berths in the three women’s weight divisions at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

T.J. Brock of West Hills Chaminade, state champion in the 100 meters and a defensive back in football, announced a commitment to USC. . . . Receiver Theo Howard of Westlake Village Westlake said he will attend UCLA.
