Oregon avenges loss to Colorado

Elgin Cook scored 18 points and Chris Boucher had 12 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead No. 16 Oregon to a 76- 56 win over Colorado on Thursday night at Eugene, Ore.

Tyler Dorsey added 13 points and Dwayne Benjamin had 11 for the Ducks ( 19- 4, 8- 2 Pac- 12 Conference), who won their f ifth straight and 21st consecutiv­e home game.

Josh Scott led the Buffaloes ( 17- 6, 6- 4) with 17 points, and George King had 16 and eight rebounds. Colorado had a 42- 38 advantage on the boards.

The Ducks avenged a 9187 loss to the Buffaloes on the road last month.

Oregon led by as many as 23 points late in the game and finished with a 21- 4 edge in points off turnovers, with Colorado committing 14. The Ducks also held the Buffaloes to six of 20 ( 30%) from beyond the arc.

Colorado got to within 10 at 50- 40 midway through the second half, but Oregon answered with a 7- 0 run and pulled away.

The Ducks spotted Colorado the game’s f irst basket and never trailed again after a Boucher three- pointer. Oregon went on a 13- 0 run to go up 24- 7 with 7 minutes 45 seconds left in the half, which ended with the Ducks up 40- 21.

Oregon converted eight Buffalo turnovers into 11 points during a chippy f irst half that included a pair of double technicals.

at Oregon State 71, Utah

69: Gary Payton II had 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds as the Beavers ( 13- 8, 4- 6) rallied to defeated the Utes ( 17- 6, 6- 4) at Corvallis, Ore. Oregon State trailed 69- 68 when Stephen Thompson Jr. was fouled on a last- gasp half- court shot. He made all three free throws. The Beavers’ Jarmal Reid fouled Utah’s Jordan Loveridge on a three- point attempt with 2.2 seconds left. Loveridge sank all three free throws before Thompson was fouled with 0.1 of a second left.
