Rangers acquire Staal

The New York Rangers acquired Carolina captain Eric Staal in a trade that will send center Aleksi Saarela and second- round picks in the next two drafts to the Hurricanes. Staal, who has 10 goals this season, leaves behind his brother Jordan in Carolina but joins his brother Marc in New York.

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Anthony Davis plans to file for NFL reinstatem­ent after he retired last June following a head injury. Davis, the 11th pick in the 2010 draft, was affected by a concussion late in the 2014 season.
