James sits out and the Cavaliers falter

Taking advantage of a day off for LeBron James, the host Washington Wizards defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 113- 99, on Sunday behind John Wall’s 21 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. Wall sat out the fourth quarter. Leading by nine points after the first half, the Wizards broke things open with a 9- 0 run to start the second half.

The Wizards have a five- game winning streak at home.

Coach Tyronn Lue gave James a rest because Cleveland is in the middle of three games in four days.

Kyrie Irving had 28 points and six assists for Cleveland.

at Atlanta 87, Charlotte 76: Kent Bazemore scored 14 points, and Al Horford had 13 points and tied a season high with 16 rebounds to help lift the Hawks. Marvin Williams had 16 points and Jeremy Lin scored 15 for the Hornets, who were trying to be the f irst Charlotte team since 1996- 97 to win eight games in February.

Portland 111, at Indiana 102: Damian Lillard had 33 points and five rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have won eight of nine games. Monta Ellis had 18 points for the Pacers, who have struggled to put together more than two victories together since winning three games in a row in December.

at Orlando 130, Philadelph­ia 116: Rookie Mario Hezonja dunked four seconds into his first start, finishing with 13 points for the Magic. Nik Vucevic and Victor Oladipo each scored 28 points, and Aaron Gordon had a career- high 22 points for Orlando. Jahlil Okafor scored 26 points for the 76ers, who lost their eighth game in a row.

at Detroit 114, Toronto 101: Andre Drummond had 15 points and 18 rebounds, and the Pistons took advantage of Kyle Lowry’s absence to win their fourth consecutiv­e game. Lowry sat out for the first time this season to rest. Terrence Ross scored 27 points for the Raptors.

Miami 98, at New York 81: Dwyane Wade had 26 points, and the Heat went on a 13- 2 run to start the game and never looked back. Hassan Whiteside had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Heat. Carmelo Anthony had 25 points for the Knicks.

at Dallas 128, Minnesota 101: Chandler Parsons scored 29 points, including 13 in a row during a stretch covering the second and third quarters to help the Mavericks restore a 20- point lead they built in the f irst 11 minutes. Shabazz Muhammad scored 24 points for the Timberwolv­es.
