Apple turns to Latinos
When Apple promoted its music streaming service, it talked to the tech press. But as the iPhone maker defies a court order in the San Bernardino terrorism case, it turned to Univision. A Latino Apple executive warned viewers of the Spanish- language network that the FBI’s demand to access iPhones could give investigators new surveillance powers, including in immigration cases.
Honest questions
Honest Co. built its reputation as an environmentally safe purveyor of soaps, lotions and cleaning products — helped by its celebrity co- founder, actress Jessica Alba. But the Santa Monica company’s image was called into question by the Wall Street Journal, which commissioned lab tests that found a harsh chemical in its laundry detergent. Honest questioned the f inding.
Studio sets up f ilm workshop
Warner Bros. is preparing to launch a f ilm workshop for aspiring directors as a way to boost undiscovered and underrepresented talent amid the outcry over Hollywood’s lack of diversity. The ninemonth program, starting this year, will pair f ive successful applicants with a Warner Bros. executive mentor as they make a short, $ 100,000 f ilm at the Burbank studio.
Kaiser plans med school
Kaiser Permanente has selected Pasadena as the home of its new medical school, which will matriculate its f irst class in 2019 and focus on adopting new technology and adhering to the latest medical evidence in patient care. The Oakland- based HMO giant chose the site because it is close to freeways, public transportation, affordable housing and other Kaiser facilities providing training.
