HBO’s Game of Thrones season six, which began April 24, is looking to be a vengeful one for Headey, 42, who has been twice nominated for an Emmy for her role as the cunning Cersei Lannister, Queen Regent of Westeros.

Cersei’s not the nicest woman. How do you relate to someone so mean?

I don’t think she is that cruel. I don’t play her to be hugely disliked, so I don’t see her as purely evil. She’s a ferocious parent, and she’s dealing with a certain madness of her upbringing. Ultimately, she’s a survivor. This season’s a little different. I may change my tune after this one.

What has been the hardest scene for you to film?

I find the hard ones are where you have to remember crazy names and places. It’s like a [messed] up version of Shakespeare. Pronouncing everything correctly is quite a lot of pressure.

What has life taught you?

As the years roll by, I’m learning to take it with more humor. As you get older, you look back on your youth and you’re like, my God, you had no idea, really and truly, how great it is to be healthy or to just be yourself. The payoff of getting older is I look in the mirror less, but I have more of a laugh.

What besides acting are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about my life. I love my family. I love my friends. I’m vastly a champion of good humanity in this world that sometimes feels like it’s crumbling in places. I’m a giant yoga fan. I like kindness, I’m partial to good wine, l like a party and some good food.
