Earnhardt to miss more races

-

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has not been cleared by doctors to return to racing and will miss at least two more races — at Michigan and Darlington, S.C. — as he recovers from a concussion.

Hendrick Motorsports announced Earnhardt’s status. Earnhardt was evaluated by doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program.

Alex Bowman, who drove for Earnhardt at New Hampshire, will return to drive the No. 88 Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway this weekend. Jeff Gordon will fill in at Darlington, where he has won seven races.

Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm was added to Sweden’s roster for next month’s World Cup. He replaces the injured Niklas Kronwall.

The Arizona Coyotes have hired Dawn Braid as skating coach and say she is believed to be the first full-time female coach in NHL history.

She worked part time for the Coyotes last year and has served as a skating consultant with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Ducks, Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames.

The Lakers have re-signed center Tarik Black. He has averaged 5.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in two seasons with the team.

Three Olympic champion weightlifters from China and eight other medalists stand to be stripped of their titles after failing retests of their doping samples from the 2008 Olympics.

The International Weightlifting Federation, headquartered in Budapest, Hungary, said the 11 tested positive for a range of banned substances in the latest scandal to shake the sport, which is already processing retests that caught numerous medalists from the 2008 and 2012 games. They are all provisionally suspended until the doping cases are resolved.

The IWF said in a statement on its website that Chinese gold medalists Cao Lei, Liu Chunhong and Chen Xiexia all tested positive for GHRP-2, which stimulates growth hormone production, and that Liu also tested positive for the stimulant sibutramine.

The other eight medalists include current world record holder Andrei Rybakou of Belarus, who won silver in 2008. All tested positive for various anabolic steroids, according to the IWF.
