They thrive on the drama
Nikki and Courtney Sixx had searched for a home to add a movie theater.
A tricked-out screening room was so important to bassist Nikki Sixx and his wife, Courtney, that they wouldn’t consider buying a house without it, or the space to build one.
They found the right home two years ago in Westlake Village, spending $4.125 million on a 10,300square-foot mansion with an all-purpose room that could be converted into a home theater.
“None of my previous homes had the right configuration to make it happen,” said the musician, who co-founded the metal band Motley Crue.
Courtney, a DIY enthusiast who hosts the How2Girl YouTube and radio shows, remodeled the space with the help of customized home theater company West Coast Systems. She transformed it from a white room with oldfashioned cabinets to a glam-rockinspired entertainment haven that seats 20.
She filled it with plush, redvelvet loungers and armchairs, leopard-print carpeting and custom-built, black-leather bar chairs with brass studs. The centerpiece of the room is a 178-inch screen. In one corner is a mini-recording studio, with a curtain that seals it off with the press of a button. The theater even has its own bathroom.

and her friends retreat to the second-floor theater to drink wine, nibble on hors d’oeuvres and watch “The Bachelorette.”
“I put roses everywhere, like on the show,” she said. “It’s my guilty pleasure.”
Why is this your favorite room?
Nikki: It’s been my dream to have an actual movie theater in my home for years. We not only have our dream home, but one badass movie theater in it.
What are your favorite shows or movies to watch in here?
Nikki: Documentaries, football or eye-candy blockbusters. We live in here.
How did you come up with the overall look?
Courtney: Our favorite designer
for the home is Ralph Lauren. We love those deep, rich velvets, and we love red. I upholstered everything in red velvet, even the door. When Nikki said he wanted leopard print, I was thrilled. I love animal prints. The more, the merrier! We’re redoing the rest of the house, and I’m putting a touch of animal print everywhere.
What are some of the other special things about this room?
Nikki: You would not believe the sound system, and the visuals are over the top.
Courtney: I found a rose-gold chandelier at the Rose Bowl Flea Market. The bar is covered with black marble that feels like leather. I got it from a place in Van Nuys that’s the size of two Home Depots.
Anything else you want to add to the theater?
Courtney: I’m thinking about putting in a popcorn machine, although I’m not sure anybody will ever use it. But we’ll definitely have red and black monogrammed popcorn buckets.
Apart from watching TV, what else do you use the room for?
Courtney: Because of the padding on the wall, the theater is soundproof so I can record my radio show here.
I just got back from being on tour with Nikki, and I was so jetlagged I stayed here for three days, in and out of sleep. It’s so dark, it’s like a cave. You can lose all track of time. It’s a wonderful place to unplug.
