Authorities are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision on the 60 Freeway in Pomona that killed four people and injured four others.

A new-model white vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer with eight people in it about 5 a.m. Saturday, authorities said. The driver of the SUV, Elena Chavez-Lopez, who was heading east on the 60 Freeway in Pomona at about 65 mph, lost control of the vehicle as it veered sharply to the right, officials said.

The Explorer flipped multiple times as it bounced off the road and down a dirt embankment, ejecting six passengers before coming to a rest at a chain-link fence near a freeway offramp, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol. Authorities believe six of the occupants weren’t wearing seatbelts.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the four people who died as Elba Rosales, 26; Luis Herrera, 29; Noemi Herrera, 21; and Gerardo Herrera, 49. All were Lake Elsinore residents, but authorities could not confirm how they were related to each other.

A GoFundMe page posted after the crash to raise money for the victims’ families indicates that most of the SUV’s passengers were members of the same family. Gerardo Herrera was the father of Luiz and Noemi Herrera, according to the page.

Chavez-Lopez and three other passengers suffered minor and major injuries.

There have been no arrests in the incident, said Officer Monica Posada of the CHP’s Southern Division. A description of the hit-andrun driver was unavailable.
