Death penalty repeal

-

62 Question: Should California repeal the death penalty and replace it with life imprisonment without parole? Money raised for “Yes” campaign: $8.9 million Money raised for “No” campaign: $4.6 million What you should know: Mike Farrell, best known for his role as B.J. Honeycutt on the TV series “MASH,” is the official proponent and a longtime death penalty critic. The measure would apply retroactively to existing death sentences. It would also increase the portion of life inmates’ wages that may be applied to victim restitution. Its net ongoing reduction in state and county criminal justice costs could be at least $150 million annually, although the impact could vary by tens of millions of dollars. Voters rejected a similar effort in 2012.
