Wilton Speight threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns in three quarters as the Wolverines (7-0, 4-0) tuned up for next week’s game against Michigan State. The injury-strapped Fighting Illini (2-5, 1-3) were down to their third-string quarterbac­k, redshirt freshman Jeff George Jr., son of the former Illinois and NFL quarterbac­k. He completed four of 15 passes for 95 yards with a touchdown, an intercepti­on and a fumble in his first start.

at No. 8 Nebraska 27, Purdue 14:

Tommy Armstrong Jr. accounted for 303 yards of total offense and two touchdowns, and the Cornhusker­s (7-0, 4-0) rallied from a surprising four-point halftime deficit against the Boilermake­rs (3-4, 1-3), who lost their first game under interim Coach Gerad Parker after Darrell Hazell was fired last week.

No. 10 Wisconsin 17, at Iowa 9:

Corey Clement ran for 134 yards and a touchdown and the Badgers (5-2, 2-2) ended a two-game skid, beating the Hawkeyes (5-3, 3-2) for the fourth straight time at Iowa City.

at Maryland 28, Michigan State 17:

Perry Hills passed for 200 yards and two touchdowns, Ty Johnson and Lorenzo Harrison combined for 220 yards rushing, and the Terrapins (5-2, 2-2) handed the reeling Spartans (2-5, 0-4)their fifth straight loss. Michigan State began the season ranked 12th.

at Northweste­rn 24, Indiana 12:

Clayton Thorson passed for 285 yards and three touchdowns, and the Wildcats (4-3, 3-1) won their third in a row after a 1-3 start. The Hoosiers (3-4, 1-3) have lost three straight after a 3-1 start.

at Minnesota 34, Rutgers 32:

Emmitt Carpenter made a 28-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining, and the Golden Gophers (5-2, 2-2) escaped after blowing a 21-0 lead.
