Ski resort openings

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe in Nevada plans to open Oct. 31. The resort, 25 miles south of Reno, has a base elevation of more than 8,000 feet, the highest in the Lake Tahoe area. Other ski resort openings (weather permitting): Mammoth, Nov. 10; Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Nov. 18; Squaw Valley in Olympic Valley, Calif., and nearby Alpine Meadows, Nov. 11; Kirkwood in Kirkwood, Calif., south of Lake Tahoe, Nov. 18; and Northstar in Truckee, Calif., Nov. 18.
