DUMBO Turns 75

-

Dumbo, Walt Disney’s fourth animated film, released 75 years ago today, told the tale of a baby elephant ridiculed because of his big ears— who then learned how to use them to fly. Here are five facts about this soaring classic. 1. Dumbo was the first Disney animated feature set in America. 2. In the original story, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Dumbo’s sidekick was a bird, not a mouse. 3. The line in the movie, “Lots of people with big ears are famous,” was a reference to Clark Gable. 4. Like all Disney movies, Dumbo contains a hidden Mickey. When Dumbo takes a bath, Mickey’s face appears briefly in the bubbles. 5. When President Harry S. Truman visited Disneyland in 1957, he refused to come aboard the popular Dumbo attraction. Truman, a Democrat, didn’t want to be seen riding in the symbol of the Republican Party.
