SAN JOSE — Despite losing their starting goaltender after the first period, and being without the services of their captain for the second half of the game, the Ducks earned a point in a 2-1 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Tuesday night.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored less than 90 seconds into the extra session as San Jose ended its two-game losing streak.

Chris Wagner scored for the Ducks, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.

Joe Pavelski also scored for the Sharks.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier, in only his second game with the Ducks, left the game following the first period with an upper body injury. He stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced.

John Gibson, who led rookies in goals-against average and shutouts last season, came on and stopped the first 25 shots he faced before allowing Vlasic’s goal in a one-on-one situation.

Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf was limited to 10:05 of playing time after he appeared to take a shot off the forearm in the second period. Getzlaf returned briefly, but didn’t come out for the third period.

Sharks goalie Martin Jones stopped 19 of 20 shots and improved to 3-5 in his career against the Ducks.

Pavelski gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, stuffing the puck into the net, which came loose during the exchange. A review confirmed the goal.

Later in the first period, Bernier robbed Chris Tierney, who seemingly had a wide-open net until the goalie slid across to make the desperation save.

Wagner tied the score late in the second period. Clayton Stoner tried a long shot from the left that bounced in front of Jones, who could not cover before Wagner slapped it into the net.
