Re “Trump’s last chance for a honeymoon,” Opinion, Jan. 18

The numerous articles by political analysts and “mainstream media” about Donald Trump’s dismal popularity ratings all make the same mistake: They normalize the situation.

Trump doesn’t care; he has already declared that the polls are “rigged.” Republican legislators don’t care; they won a majority in both houses of Congress in spite of the fact Trump received nearly 3 million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton.

Those of us who care are powerless since our great country will soon be headed by a person who cares mainly about himself, feels any lie is justified if it serves his purpose and accepts no responsibility when others get hurt by his actions.

This is anything but normal. Stephanie Scher

It’s been less than than three months since the election, and we’re back to quoting public polls conducted by one news organization or another in place of actual reporting. Doyle McManus cites a CNN poll showing that only 40% of Americans approve of Trump’s transition.

Haven’t we learned anything since November? After most news organizations wrongly believed Trump would lose based on pre-election polls, we’re back to reading about polls.

Please give us a break from polls lest we stop reading completely or regard them as the new “fake news.” Martin Gross
