CHARGERS TACKLE DUNLAP IS ARRESTED

Nashville police arrested Chargers offensive tackle King Dunlap on Friday morning on suspicion of violating a protective order, police records show.

Dunlap, according to reports, was arrested at his girlfriend’s house following a neighbor’s phone call to police. The offense of which he is accused is classified as a misdemeanor. He has been released on $1,000 bond.

“This event was a misunderstanding between the parties as to what was allowed under the order,” Dunlap’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, said in a statement to WKRN-TV in Nashville. “They had been discussing a joint resolution. This was not an egregious event, but two parties trying to come to a mutual understanding. Unfortunately, a literal reading of the order meant absolutely no contact, and we trust the facts will resolve all issues in a favorable way for Mr. Dunlap.”

Robinson did not return a phone call from The Times.

According to WKRN, the protective order was issued in the last week. According to documents obtained by the station, Dunlap and his girlfriend were involved in an incident on Feb. 9.

In the petition filed, Dunlap’s girlfriend wrote that Dunlap “snapped” on that night, tossing a mattress, kicking and destroying a bathroom door and carrying a hammer in his hands while she tried to sleep on the couch. She also accused him of a previous incident, alleging he put his hands around her throat.

“We are aware of the situation involving King Dunlap,” the Chargers said in a statement. “We will continue to gather information and monitor the situation as the legal process runs its course.”

Dunlap, 31, signed a fouryear, $28-million deal with the Chargers in 2015. He has started all 46 games in which he’s appeared for the team over the last four seasons, including 12 games in 2016.

He also was arrested for reckless driving and disorderly conduct in 2011, when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dunlap is due in court March 7.
