Mike Trout was the 25th player selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft. Here’s a look at the players chosen ahead of him, and their profession­al careers:

1. Stephen Strasburg,

rhp, Washington: Injuries have hampered his career, but he is a two-time All-Star with a 69-41 record and a 3.17 earned-run average in seven seasons.

2. Dustin Ackley,

cf, Seattle: The Mariners converted him to a second baseman and traded him to the New York Yankees in 2015. He was released last season after hitting .148. He has a .241 career average.

3. Donavan Tate,

cf, San Diego: He has never played in the majors. He spent last season in the Dodgers organizati­on and hit .107 at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.

4. Tony Sanchez,

c, Pittsburgh: He played in only 51 games with the Pirates before he was released near the start of the 2016 season.

5. Matt Hobgood,

rhp, Baltimore: He never played in the majors after two shoulder surgeries and finished with a 17-24 record and a 4.98 ERA record in the minors. Last year, he announced that he was going to give up pitching and become a hitter.

6. Zach Wheeler,

rhp, San Francisco: The Giants traded him to the New York Mets in 2009 for Carlos Beltran. He played two seasons with the Mets (2013-14), going 18-16 with a 3.50 ERA before arm injuries caused him to miss the last two seasons. He’s battling for a rotation spot this spring.

7. Mike Minor,

lhp, Atlanta: He pitched for five seasons (2010-14) with the Braves before a torn labrum sidelined him for all of 2015. He signed a two-year, $7.25-million deal with Kansas City before the 2016 season, but has yet to pitch for the Royals.

8. Mike Leake,

rhp, Cincinnati: He was a consistent starter (62-47, 3.87 ERA) for the Reds from 2010-15 before being traded to San Francisco. He signed a five-year, $80million deal with St. Louis before the 2016 season.

9. Jacob Turner,

rhp, Detroit: He has gone 12-27 with a 5.09 ERA record for four teams. He went 1-2 with a 6.57 ERA for the Chicago White Sox last season.

10. Drew Storen,

rhp, Washington: He was the Nationals’ closer in 2011 and saved 43 games. He has 98 career saves with three teams. He signed a one-year, $3-million deal with the Reds before this season.

11. Tyler Matzek,

lhp, Colorado: He went 8-12 with a 4.06 ERA in two seasons (2014-15) with the Rockies. He signed a minor league contract with the White Sox in January.

12. Aaron Crow,

rhp, Kansas City: He pitched well for the Royals for four seasons (2011-14) and made the All-Star team in 2011. He missed the 2015 season with an injury and hasn’t pitched in the majors since.

13. Grant Green,

ss, Oakland: He switched to second base in the minors and has played in 127 games in the majors, including three seasons with the Angels (2013-15). Currently, he is with Washington.

14. Matt Purke,

lhp, Texas: He pitched in 12 games in the majors, all in 2016 with the White Sox.

15. Alex White,

rhp, Cleveland: He compiled a 5-13 record with a 6.03 ERA from 2011-12. He was out of baseball in 2016.

16. Bobby Borchering,

3b, Arizona: He spent seven seasons in the minors and is currently out of baseball.

17. A.J. Pollock,

cf, Arizona: He hit over .300 in backto-back seasons with Arizona (2014-15) and made the All-Star team in 2015. He had 20 homers and scored 111 runs that year. He missed most of 2016 because of a broken elbow.

18. Chad James,

lhp, Miami: He went 22-44 in six minor league seasons with Miami and Texas. He was suspended for 100 games before the 2016 season for violating baseball’s drug policy. He is currently out of baseball.

19. Shelby Miller,

rhp, St. Louis: He went 26-18 with the Cardinals before being traded to Atlanta before the 2015 season for Jason Heyward. He has gone 9-29 since then with Atlanta and Arizona.

20. Chad Jenkins,

rhp, Toronto: He pitched in parts of four seasons with the Blue Jays, who released him in 2016. Currently, he is out of baseball.

21. Jiovanni Mier,

ss, Houston: He has never played in the majors. He hit .219 for Toronto’s triple-A team in Buffalo last season.

22. Kyle Gibson,

rhp, Minnesota: He has been part of the Twins’ starting rotation the last four seasons, going 32-38 with a 4.59 ERA.

23. Jared Mitchell,

cf, Chicago White Sox: He hit .227 in seven minor league seasons. He was released while playing for the Yankees’ double-A team last season and has been out of baseball since then.

24. Randal Grichuk,

lf, Angels: The Angels traded him, along with Peter Bourjos, to St. Louis in 2013 for David Freese and Fernando Salas. He has hit .254 with 44 homers in three seasons with the Cardinals.
